A Proton rock with an upper stage Breeze M launched Monday from Baikonur Cosmodrome, Kazakhstan, carrying Anik G1 to orbit. Anik G1 is a Canadian telecommunications satellites that expands capacity for DTH services over Canada for Telesat. It also has an X-band payload that will be used for government services and C-band and Ku-band capacity for South America. The satellite should be ready for operations by May and has an expected life of 15 years.
